Watch and Jewelry expo kicks off in Sharjah

Exquisite gold and diamond jewelry are on display at the Expo Center Sharjah as the 24th MidEast Watch & Jewelry Show got inaugurated on April 15 by HE Sheikh Saud Bin Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Advisor at Sharjah Ruler's Court.
The expo which is held biannually will extend till April 19 and is the most popular and awaited event in the region. It is organized by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the World Gold Council and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
New exhibitors from Italy, India, Brazil, Japan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and UAE are also making the most of the opportunity to leave an indelible imprint.
Despite record high prices of gold stable above US $900 an ounce, the fair received a spectacular response from exhibitors.
Over 350 exhibitors from all corners of the world are displaying their most unique and striking collection of jewelry creations for the season. Exhibits include gold and diamond jewelry of precious and semi-precious stones and pearls, silver jewelry and watches.
Value of Gold sales in the country rose 23.8 percent to $2.6 billion in 2007, besides, fourth quarter sales value touched $516 million, registering a 6 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
This apart, demand for diamond jewelry has also been increasing by 40 percent in the past two years with rough diamond trade in Dubai alone amounting to $4.8 billion in 2007.
