Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council honors UCCA students

The University College for the Creative Arts, Rochester, has scooped the College Trophy at the Goldsmiths' Craftsmanship and Design Awards – a ceremony which saw 30 of its students and several alumni receive prizes.
The University College has a long tradition of involvement with this prestigious competition, and has won the Trophy as the best college 15 times over the last 17 years. (Ivana Poplanska, Fashion Jewellery - Production, Commendation Award.)
Brian Hill, Programme Leader in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery at the university college, said "we are delighted that our hard work in creative contemporary design and 3D making has been recognised by the Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council."
"We are the only institution to offer the three specialist course pathways of silver, gold and jewellery, and pride ourselves on the fact that we continuously update the programme to reflect developments in the industry, including technology, whilst also maintaining high levels of professionalism in the student work."
The Awards Ceremony was held at Goldsmith Hall in London on 3rd March and featured 28 different categories judged by experts from the silversmithing, jewellery and allied crafts industry. There were more than 700 entries with the honoured winners taking cash prizes and sponsored awards.
The University College had more prizewinners than any other institution, with its students receiving awards in categories from platinum design to fashion jewellery through to goldsmithing and silversmithing.
Mr Hill added: "We encourage our students to enter live projects and competitions because it gives them a real focus and direction, aspire to high standards of attainment and helps them to network with the industry and raise their profile – all of which helps in establishing themselves in the profession after graduation."
