Stop Escada´s fur trade!

2 min read

On april 17th 2008 Claus Mingers, the chairman of Escada´s supervisory board, announced at the annual general meeting in Munich/Germany self-confidently that the company will cling to the fur trade. Escada tries to sit the global anti fur campaign out and hopes for the protests to abate.

That this is not the case had to be detected by Claus Mingers the same day: in front of the noble hotel, where Escada´s shareholders gathered, angry animal rights activists protested against Escada´s animal despising business policy. The opening speech of the Escada management was disrupted by three activists with an anti fur transparent and animal rights slogans and also during the meeting critical shareholders brought up the subject fur over and over again. The anti fur campaign against Escada is thus far from capitulation.

Furthermore Escada did not manage to obscure their disastrous economical situation during the annual general meeting for one minute: the stock price is truly low-level, potential investors turned away from Escada and one major shareholder sold amidst the crisis parts of their shares.

Nothing indicates a rectification of the situation. Given that it is really astonishing that Escada believes to be able to ignore our campaign. The economical damage can hardly be denied.

That we will sustain pressure on Escada also during the summer months and protests will continue to take place in many countries is what we want to demonstrate the weekend of 16th-18th of may 2008. We ask you to spend some hours at that weekend to proclaim your protest of any kind against Escada´s fur trade. Escada is one of the leading fashion companies and for this reason it is important to show the strength and determination of the global animal liberation movement with this campaign.
