Darnell Collection to resurrect golden era at Cowra

Cowra Regional Art Gallery, New South Wales will exhibit the exclusive vintage and retro clothing and accessories from the Darnell Collection. Charlotte Smith, owner of the Darnell Collection will inaugurate the exhibition on May 30, where spectators will get a rare glimpse of this spectacular private assembling.

The Darnell Collection consists of more than 4000 pieces of dresses, undergarments, and accessories including gloves, hats, hatpins, jewellery and handbags, spanning from 18th to the 20th century, including couture from Dior and Versace.

One of the most valuable items in the collection is a dress by French designer Madeleine Vionnet, it was worn during the coronation of King George VI in 1937.

The rare exhibit is sure to mesmerize onlookers as the exquisite pieces reflect the royal and magnificent culture and mannerism of the golden era that still manages to spell its magic on onlookers.

Doris Darnell, a Quaker, from Pennsylvannia in the USA, collected all the garments and accessories over her lifetime. It has now become the largest private collection of clothes in Australia.
