Project BLUE, the national initiative established to raise funds in support of ocean and beach protection, continues to gain momentum as the campaign's second summer officially gets underway.

An unprecedented harmonization of six leading and competitive brands in the multi-billion dollar surf industry, proceeds from products sold under the project BLUE umbrella will go towards the Surfrider Foundation, the non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches.

Project BLUE represents a collaboration rarely witnessed in other billion dollar industries. Six internationally respected brands, including Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Nixon, Reef and O'Neill, have partnered to create a complementary product line of special-edition, co-branded merchandise for both men and women, specifically for the project BLUE initiative.

Each brand has committed to long-term support for the initiative and its proactive approach to protecting the world's oceans and beaches.

Sold at leading retail stores nationwide and online through Swell.com, a portion of each product's proceeds goes towards the Surfrider Foundation.

"Project BLUE represents a first of its kind partnership, not just for the action sports industry, but for all businesses who operate on a worldwide level.

Through project BLUE, globally recognized brands that compete on a day-to-day level are coming together for a single philanthropic goal," said Vipe Desai, project BLUE founder.

"By providing a collection of high-quality products beach lovers regularly purchase, they've made it simple for people to support Surfrider's goals with both their hearts and their wallets."

While the project BLUE product line is constantly evolving, highlights from the partner brands include:
- Billabong: Sonic (mens) and Planet (womens) boardshorts, both made entirely of recycled textiles and plastic soda bottles.
- DAKINE: Interval (mens) and Channel (womens) backpacks, which incorporate seam-sealed wetsuit pockets, insulated cooler pockets and other key features for a day at the beach.
- Electric: The EC-DC XL (mens) and K.O. (womens) polarized sunglasses.
- Nixon: Lodown digital watch, pre-programmed with 200 beach tide charts in addition to a 100-meter waterproof casing and other key features.
- O'Neill: Shoreline sweatshirt (mens) and organic cotton t-shirts for both men and women.
- Reef: Special colorways of the award winning Mick Fanning sandal (mens sandal with bottle opener incorporated into the sole) and the innovative Stash sandal for women (features integrated storage compartment in the heel for keys or money).
