Tough challenges require the right equipment, and the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run is one of the toughest around. Covering six days and 110 miles through the high Colorado Rockies, the course includes everything from rock-strewn mountaintop trails to cold creek crossings and idyllic trips across alpine meadows.

It's no secret that the single most important piece of running equipment is the shoe and the hundreds of runners from around the world who come to take on this challenge will demand that their shoes do it all.

Each day they'll face tens of thousands of strides on a wide variety of surfaces, and their shoes will have to deliver the best in responsiveness, speed, stability, cushioning and grip throughout. In addition, TransRockies Run participants will face a huge variety of Rocky Mountain weather: heat at lower elevations, cold on the peaks, bone-dry jeep tracks, wet mountain creeks, and even the potential for snow. With all this, thermal and moisture regulation will be paramount in maintaining comfortable, healthy feet.

In 2008, Salomon will be the official footwear supplier of the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run. With over 60 years of authentic mountain sports heritage, Salomon creates and develops performance equipment for true adventures. Designed and tested by Salomon's staff of mountain sports junkies, Salomon trail shoes have been proven by an elite group of trail runners in winning races all over the World. Just as importantly, they have been worn and loved by enthusiasts and weekend warriors everywhere.

“We're really excited that Salomon is going to be part of the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run this year,” said Event Director Aaron McConnell.

“They have been an iconic brand in mountain sports for decades and the TransRockies is quickly becoming an icon in its own right.”

Starting in Buena Vista on August 25th and finishing at Beaver Creek Mountain resort six days later, this year's TransRockies Run will be tougher in every respect than last year's inaugural edition.

It includes: one more day of running, 15 more miles of distance, thousands of feet of additional elevation gain, and greater maximum altitude.

The rewards of the TransRockies Run are just as exceptional: spectacular mountain scenery from mountaintop vistas to Aspen forests and high alpine meadows; camaraderie created by the unique team multi-day format; and fantastic full-spectrum race support from one of the foremost event organizations in the World.

“The GORE-TEX brand provides the technology that runners need to maintain a strong performance and the best mental state”, said Matt Schreiner, Gore Global Footwear Product Specialist.

“It helps the runner maintain an optimal microclimate in the shoe for as long as possible in the widest range of conditions.

The strong global partnership between GORE and Salomon has greatly advanced product development and innovation in the world of outdoor footwear with a specific focus on trail running.”

Salomon's superb range of trail running shoes will provide the ideal solution for the long TransRockies days on the trail, whether it's the XA Comp GTX, made with GORE-TEX XCR for ultimate waterproof breathability or the all-new XT Wings, which premieres this season integrating a host of Salomon technologies for ultimate trail performance.

This same shoe will be available next spring in a style with a GORE-TEX lining . . . tested and approved by TransRockies Run lucky participants!

“Salomon is excited to be partnering with Gore to sponsor the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run. It is a great opportunity for Salomon to support the trail running community of North America”, said Salomon Sports Marketing Manager Paul Guimond.
