Put your best toe & foot forward for trip down the aisle

From the venue to the guest list and the flowers, planning a wedding takes lots of preparation. And preparing the bride for the big day should be no different.

This advice applies right down to a bride's toes, as bridal footwear has evolved to include almost endless style choices, including strappy sandals and other foot-baring designs.

According to a new survey for Microplane Foot Files, one in four U.S. women don't feel "put together" when preparing for a special event unless they have a pedicure.

"As a bride, when it comes to your nails, you should always experiment with polish colors a few weeks prior to the wedding until you are satisfied.

Remember, your nails will be captured in photographs forever," says celebrity manicurist/pedicurist Gina Eppolito, who has worked on some of Hollywood's most famous hands and feet, like Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts.

Eppolito offers the following tips to guarantee you "nail" the right look for your big day:
- Reach for complementary colors: When choosing a color keep in mind that the shade should complement both your skin tone and the color of your wedding dress.

"Some brides opt for a stark white dress, while others opt for antique or off-white dresses," says Eppolito. "I suggest selecting a sheer white or sheer with a hint of pink. Essie makes a gorgeous Wedding Line, so you can look to those colors for some ideas."

- Play it Smooth: When you're walking down the aisle, calluses and dry, cracked heels are absolutely not a good look, and snagging expensive nylons on your feet can cause last-minute panic.

"Your feet should be soft and smooth for the big day, and for the many women for whom scrubs and pumice stones just don't do the job, Microplane Foot Files are a great find for home use or to bring with you to the salon," Eppolito says.

"They use tiny, bi-directional files to remove the roughest, driest skin gently and effectively without tearing or cutting the skin." Eppolito says forget razors, as they are dangerous to use on feet unless you are at a podiatrist's office.

- Clean and classic: French manicures are always clean and classic, but you may want to go a little bolder on the toes.

"You want your toes to look polished in your photos, so try to stay in the same family as your hands, but kick it up a few tones," suggests Eppolito.

- Say no to yellow: No matter what color the dress or skin tone, stay away from any yellow-based colors. "Polish colors with a yellow base will show up very yellow in photos, and will most likely turn on the honeymoon," warns Eppolito.

"Remember, polish in photos reads darker than in person, so this is something to take into consideration. If it's a choice between two colors, go for the lighter one."
