How much can one spend for possessing a pair of knickers worn by Queen Victoria? Well, we got the answer on July 30, when a Canadian lady paid jaw dropping US $9,000 during an auction in Mackworth, Derby. The auction was conducted by Charles Hanson a popular television artist.
Queen's cotton bloomers dating back to the 1880s have initials VR (Victoria Regina) and a crown embroidered on it. The inner wear was kept by her personal maid for many years. The royal knickers attracted the attention of bidders from countries like Brazil, Russia, Hong Kong and New York. Other than bloomers worn by the Queen, her other garments like chemise and nightdress were also kept for auction.
Her chemise, measuring 66 inches at the bust, was taken away for $8,000. Victoria's nightwear measuring a mere 50 inches from shoulder to hem, sold for a whopping $11,000 to an American collector.
Queen Victoria was born in 1819 and became Queen in 1837 she was Britain's longest reigning monarch who not only ruled the region but also the hearts of countrymen.
