Manufacturers of footwear have good perspectives for 2009

The favorable economic indicators and the good conditions of companies must guarantee that the leather-footwear chain continues growing internally in 2009.

The secret of the sector - that saw the per capita internal consumption increase from 2,9 pairs of footwear in 2003 to 3,4 pairs this year -, is to be identified with the trends of fashion. And for this, the best allies are nanotechnology and microelectronics.

With these new tools, the time to market (time between the arrival of the idea until the delivery of the product) changed from 60 days to 15 days, what represents a great gain of competitiveness. Today, our footwear competes with best designs of the world, states the superintendent of Assintecal, Ilse Biason Guimarães.

Although the manufacturers of footwear and leather producers are with retraction in exportations, external sales of components for leather, footwear and devices must close the year with an 8% increase, the equivalent to US$ 1 billion. The main destinations, according to the superintendent of Assintecal, are the countries of Central America, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

This adequacy of footwear to fashion can be perceived in the Forum of Inspirations, idealized by Assintecal and the National Service of Industrial Learning (Senai) that was initiated on 26 Augest 2008, in Novo Hamburgo. The event will cover 24 cities of Brazil to present the trends of autumn-winter 2009 collections.

According to the designer & researcher of the State University of Londrina, Dorotéia Badauy Pires, one of the speakers of the meeting, Brazil needs to invest a lot in the research of field for the development of collections. The entrepreneur should risk, to give more space for Brazilian creativity. We always go in the direction of what we are certain that sells and this becomes a bottle-neck, she says.

According to her, the Country works in isolated way. She mentions as example the Brazilian Program of Design (PBD), initiative of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce directed toward the insertion and increment of the management of design in Brazilian productive sectors. They are drops in the Ocean, she says. That is why I like the Italians, who joined to gain money and therefore they have one of best designs of the world.

Rio Grande Do Sul, as Dorotéia, suffers from the same ailments that the other Brazilian states in relation to design. As well as Minas Gerais, the biggest center of design of the Country, the State has local pride, but it is necessary a good positioning of what is the gaucho product, she states.

The executive director of Fenac - Tourist Fairs and Enterprises, Luiz Amaro, present in the Forum of Inspirations, highlights that the entity has been working to spread the culture of design inside of Brazil. An example will be the space for architects to assemble environments in leather with design inside of Courovisão 2008 that happens from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October.

There is great potential. We have the raw material and we need the Country to acquire knowledge that what is missing is to develop the culture of design, he highlights.
