Sabyasachi to launch new line of jewellery at MBFW

Eclectic Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee adds another feather to his cap as he's invited to showcase at the forthcoming Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week for the third year in a row. Sabyasachi remains the only Indian designer to have achieved this feat.
The designer will unveil his latest collection at the Spring Summer '09 Season of the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. However, what is unique about his latest collection is that it will include a new line of jewellery designed by Sabyasachi in association with GAJA, a brand of the Shree Ganesh Jewellery House Limited, Kolkata.
Sabyasachi's collection to be showcased at the Fashion Week takes its inspiration from the paintings of Paul Gauguin, Emil Nolde and the spirit of Edith Piaf's music. Hand painted silks, discharge printed chiffons, and multicolored textured embroidery that almost resemble peeling off canvasses, form the basis of this trendy collection that has a varied range of body-conscious silhouettes and shapes from the '40's and '60's.
The jewellery line, an extension of Sabaysachi's design philosophy -“Personalized imperfection of the human hand” - uses cross cultural influences and obsolete and traditional techniques of manufacturing. Quaint Minakari, an eclectic mix of gemstones and a clashing mix of tradition, whether it is filigree from Bengal, Jadau from North India or Chettinad style of studded jewellery from South, every piece is a testimonial to the rich jewellery heritage of India.
