Bata sees impressive growth for first nine months of 2008

Bata India, the largest footwear retailer and the leader in the footwear industry in India, continued its positive performance by posting an impressive 50% increase in net profit at Rs. 3962.70 lacs, for the first nine months of the year (2008) as compared to same period last year (2007).

Turnover grew by 15% at Rs. 74732.30 lacs in the first nine months of 2008, as against the same period last year (2007).

The company has reported a net profit of Rs. 1240.20 lacs, in the quarter ending September'08, as compared to Rs. 955.40 lacs in the corresponding period last year, a growth of 30%. The company recorded a turnover of Rs 23253.70 lacs in Q3 08, a 13% increase over Q3 07.

Bata India Ltd. is on an aggressive growth path and has implemented growth driving initiatives at various levels.

Keeping in step with time and ahead of competitors, Bata has adopted an ambitious strategy of opening new stores every year. The company has opened 53 new stores during the first 9 months of 2008, which are based on the new retail format and have an average size of nearly 3000 sq ft.

The company has recently launched its festival collection, keeping in mind the current trends and preferences of the customers. The main focus this season is the ladies collection which showcases over 100 new designs in patent, metallic and embroidered looks.

These initiatives have resulted in a healthy sales increase in the Company's retail stores.
