'Fashion Fights Cancer 2008' fund raiser on December 21

Indian Cancer Society (ICS) and Lakme come together for a second consecutive year to promote awareness and help victims of cancer through a fund raiser-'Fashion Fights Cancer 2008'. The fund raiser event will be held on December 21st at Taj Palace, New Delhi.

The highlights at 'Fashion Fights Cancer 2008' will be the showcase of Sabyasachi's much acclaimed Bridal Sutra Collection which was applauded at Lakme Fashion Week's Grand Finale; this will be Sabyasachi's first show in four years in the capital. Ex- Miss India and painter Anjana Kuthiala's painting will also be a part of the silent auction at the fund raiser. The 3ft X 4ft painting will dominated by green and orange hues to compliment the Bridal Sutra Collection.

The money raised will be used to replace aging equipment at the Cancer Screening Centre, run the (Outreach) Mobile Screening Unit, as well as pay for assistance to cancer patients towards treatment drugs.

Speaking about the initiative, Jyotsna Govil, Hon. Additional Secretary, ICS said, “Our effort has been to provide awareness about the disease and to promote annual screening to catch the disease in early stages when it is treatable and curable. Lakme and Sabyasachi have reached out to us with great generosity, to take our message far and wide. A unique tie-up with Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) allows us to put the spot-light on that forgotten, yet all too common cancer - of the Cervix.”

Shubhranshu Singh, Marketing Manager – Lakme added, “Lakmé with the expertise and legacy of beauty and fashion is conscious of its responsibility and therefore is helping bring to light issues such as Cancer that needs long-term attention. This is a humble contribution from Lakme, a representative of the fashion fraternity for the well being of the patient and fellow citizens.”

Sabyasachi Mukherjee – Grand Finale Designer at the Lakme Fashion Week said “It is always a pleasure to be associated with Lakme; they are the leaders in the beauty and fashion industry and consistently improvise with each season. Lakme's contribution to ICS through Fashion Fights Cancer gives me an opportunity to be a part of it with immense pride.”

Anjana Narain, Business Unit Director, Vaccines, MSD Pharmaceuticals Ltd. said, "MSD India is dedicated to the prevention of cervical cancer which takes the lives of 200 women in India every day. We are proud to partner with ICS and Lakme to raise awareness about this disease.
