Manitobah adds new all weather soles to collection of mukluks

Manitobah Mukluks, known for its traditionally designed mukluks made of natural furs and leather, has added a new sole that will enable wearers to enjoy their mukluks in all kinds of weather.

“We have a loyal, fashion-conscious following who appreciate the look and feel of our footwear, but they wanted a sole that would enable them to wear their mukluks in all kinds of weather and conditions,” noted Josh Fine, Vice President of Brand and Distribution at Manitobah Mukluks. “Vibram® has the design and manufacturing experience to create just what we wanted -- a modern sole that respected old traditions.”

The new soles wrap around the wearer's foot, similar to the original shape of the mukluks. The Vibram rubber soles provide added traction and performance in less than ideal weather while adding stylish tread patterns designed by a native artist, incorporating native symbols. The sole is thin and flexible enough to enable the wearer to feel the earth under foot.

“Manitobah works hard to maintain the traditions and authenticity of their footwear, so we wanted to provide them with a new sole that would blend stylistically with these classic mukluks,” said Chris Favreau, Vice President of Technical Development for Quabaug, the North American manufacturer of Vibram products. “We're proud of the look and feel that we achieved with the new sole.”

Manitobah Mukluks feature little or no visible branding. The footwear is hand-sewn in Canada. Many Manitobah Mukluk styles offer intricate beadwork based on aboriginal designs by native artists.

Manitobah's mukluks with Vibram soles will be launched at The Collections at WSA in Las Vegas, February 12-14, 2009. Manitobah footwear can be viewed at The Collections in Suite 6215 of the Venetian Hotel.

Manitobah Mukluks, a native-owned company based in Winnepeg, Manitoba, has produced traditionally styled mukluks since 1998. The footwear is sewn by hand at the company's Winnepeg headquarters.
