STYL&KABO to host prestigious fashion designer competition

17 – 19 February 2009, Brno will become for the thirtieth time the haven for all who are interested in fashion and fashion design. STYL&KABO will host the unique prestigious fashion designer competition TOP STYL DESIGNER. BVV Trade Fairs Brno as one of very few businesses in the Czech Republic supports the creative work of young designers not only by organising the competition by also by sponsoring the winner with CZK 150,000.

The company has also supported the fashion design studio Studio LR in Prague for three years. Thanks to this the winner as well as other creative fashion designers have the chance to present their work to the general public. Their work could also offer inspiration and motivation for Czech clothing manufacturers.

Composition of the jury for February 2009:
Chairman Josef Taptuch (painter, Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design Prague, Paris), Libena Rochová (designer), Júlia Sabová (painter, Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava), Marcela Capkovicová (painter, Fashion Design College, Brno), Magdaléna Dietlová (editor-in-chief, Xantypa magazine), MP Alena Blažková (journalist, Textilžurnál magazine) and Robert Vano (top Czech photographer)20 designers (11 from the Czech Republic, 7 from Slovakia, 1 from Poland and 1 from Brasil) fought for the finals of the February run. From among them the jury selected 8 finalists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the beginning of December:

PETRA KRAHULCOVÁ, Czech Republic,Collection: “CONVERSATION PIECE“
The collection named Conversation Piece is inspired by an exhibition of the Spanish sculptor Juan Muñoz. Space, shape, simplicity and lightness of his work gave an impulse to the young designer to create a men's autumn collection containing 12 models in which the shape, colour and material predominate. The basic colours are various shapes of blue, white crossing over to yellow. Prevailing materials are wool and wool with cotton, wool knits, silk and viscose mixtures. The collection is determined for young men, explorers longing to know the cultures of the third world.

PAVEL KRIVÁNEK, Czech Republic,Collection: “Pocta Brunn“
The folklore costumes in the Brno region inspired the collection named POCTA BRUNN (Homage to Brno). The designer created a collection of models derived from the cuts for festive occasions, daily wearing or clothes for trade at the end of the 19th century. The colours are marked by a combination of grey with colour stripes with colourful accessories. The perfect execution, materials and function details in the form of a writing pen adding a timeless touch to the collection are worth the attention. The collection is made with silk, wool, cotton and leather.

VERONIKA LOKAJÍCKOVÁ, Slovakia, Collection: “IVVE“
The IVVE collection is inspired with precious stones, crystals and minerals. The characteristics of these stones, theirstructure, refraction of light and colours are transposed to the cut and modelling of individual clothes. Designer jewels and accessories accomplish the luxurious impression.
