FDDI Rohtak gives major boost to emerging leather industry

The Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Kamal Nath laid the foundation stone of the 'Footwear Design & Development Institute' (FDDI) at Rohtak, Haryana on 26th February 2009 at Plot No. 1, Sector 31-B, IMT, Rohtak, Haryana.

"FDDI, Rohtak will be ready in 1-1.5 years time & it is a going to be a new chapter of development in the history of Haryana.” Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Kamal Nath.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Member of Parliament, Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director of FDDI, Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI, Mr. Y.S. Malik, Rajeev Arora, IAS, Managing Director, Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd., (HSIDC) and prominent leather & footwear industrialists from Haryana were present.

“The establishment of FDDI, Rohtak is a milestone for the coming generation so that all should be employed and having practical orientation approach towards professionalism. The FDDI Rohtak will train one thousand people.” Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Ministry of Haryana.

The ceremony was inaugurated by invocation with 'Saraswati Vandana' by the students of FDDI.

“FDDI, Rohtak will be equipped with most modern and high-end state of art infrastructure to ensure world class training environment and prepare the students excel efficiently across the globe & provide gainful employment to the youth of the region.” Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament.

FDDI is rated amongst the premier fashion and retail institutions in the world. It is widely recognized as a centre of excellence. The institute conducts wide range of long term and short term programmes in the area of Retail management, Fashion, Footwear Design, Technology, Management, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Creative Designing & CAD/CAM, Leather Goods & Accessories Design etc.

“In admission at FDDI, Rohtak, 15% reservation on merit basis should be given to the people of Haryana.” Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Ministry of Haryana.

In last three years, FDDI has expanded its training capacity for more than six times. It is providing consultancy to the industry in all technical and design related areas. It has earned good name for its technical expertise and knowledge at the international forum. It is now providing consultancy to Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Kenya and other Asian and African Countries for the growth of leather industry.

The establishment of FDDI at Rohtak would meet the demand of leather products industry for skilled manpower in the long run. The institute will also assist those who want to set up their own industry and will help the organizations to grow their business.
