The Department of Design and Merchandising at Colorado State University will present its annual student apparel design show, "Framing Fashion: The Final Cut," at 7 p.m. Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31. The show will be held in the Main Ballroom of the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State campus.

Organic, sustainable fabrics
This year's show features apparel designs from upper-level students enrolled in an undergraduate capstone course and a graduate apparel design course. Undergraduate students will present their work in nine apparel lines including wedding party and resort wear lines, and a casual dress line created from organic and sustainable fabrics.

The show also features wearable art from students in the graduate course, which emphasizes textile techniques such as knitting, crocheting, felting and free-form embroidery underscored by the use of a theoretical framework in the design process.

Students in the apparel design and production concentration develop skills in trend forecasting, illustration, hand pattern drafting, and computer-aided textile and apparel design on Lectra software, commonly used in the apparel industry. They also develop knowledge required to conduct market research in preparation for the creation of their lines.

In addition to showcasing the work of student designers, the show also gives undergraduate students in the Department of Design and Merchandising experience in special event planning; the show is budgeted, planned and produced entirely by students. The event is supported by donations from the community and revenue generated from ticket sales. The Department of Design and Merchandising is part of the College of Applied Human Sciences.

A sneak peek of this year's show will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, in the Lory Student Center lower level commons area on the Colorado State University campus. This year's sneak peek will feature the work of five student designers whose apparel lines demonstrate excellence in aesthetic design, pattern development and garment construction.
