MODEPALAST closes with positive economic balance

This year's MODEPALAST (April 23-26, 2009) closed its gates at Vienna's quartier21/Museums¬Quartier (MQ). During three days, several thousand visitors strolled through 1200 sq. metres of trade fair. 90 brands showed fashion, jewellery and accessories, amongst them 35 international labels and numerous newcomers. For the designers the economic crisis was off the cards due to their attained high sales.

Especially regarding the economy, MODEPALAST has proven to be a significant event for the young Austrian and European fashion scene. Sandra Schmidt from the label “mangelware” (D/A) gives a résumé: “MODEPALAST gets better from year to year. The visitors themselves are more and more interesting, older and younger fashion fans. You cannot pin them down to only one group of buyers.”

And Martina Meixner from “Maronski” (A) adds: “MODEPALAST is more than just a trade fair. Of course, people go shopping, but they are looking for the feeling radiated by MODEPALAST most of all. The overall package just works.” For Vienna as a creative hotspot, MODEPALAST is an economically sustainable event: based on sales experience and international networks, several of the participating young designers dared to set up their own shops, mainly in the 7th Viennese district.

Supporting Programme Highlights
This year's MODEPALAST offered many highlights in its supporting programme. These included the official vernissage combined with a presentation of star designer Thang de Hoo's MODEPALAST Collection in the context of the Netherlands focus.

On Friday and Saturday, many onlookers experienced Outdoor Fashion Acts with live music by Monica Reyes and a choreography by Andrea Schmidt in MQ's main square. During the Fashion Fun Run on Sunday, amateur models were styled by Red Mutha (Brighton, UK) and headQuarters (A) in order to sprint through the MQ main square as part of a fancy fashion staging.

“MODEPALAST meets Blickfang“ Award and Raffle
For the fifth time, the audience granted the „MODEPALAST meets Blickfang“ Award. The winner will be announced on the MODEPALAST Blog on April 29. S/he can look forward to a funded stand at the Blickfang Design Fair in Vienna (October 16-18, 2009).

Until April 31, the MODEPALAST raffle runs on the MODEPALAST Blog, in which fashion fans can win gift vouchers from the Viennese labels lila, unartig, ulliKo, MILCH, gegenalltag and ALILA.

The Viennese fashion year would not be the same without the annual MODEPALAST. Cloed Baumgartner and Jasmin Ladenhaufen, the organisers of MODEPALAST, already set their sight on next year's planning, feeling vindicated by this year's success. The eighth edition 2010 aims even more for a strong internationalisation.
