Shopper's Stop registers 9% growth in gross retail turnover

Shopper's Stop Ltd, India's prominent retail group (operator of large format department stores, home stores, and specialty stores like Crossword, Mothercare, MAC, and hypermarkets) reported 9% increase in its gross retail turnover to Rs. 3468 mn for the quarter ended March 2009; compared to Rs. 3195 mn during the same period last year.

Gross Margin for the quarter stood at Rs. 1004 mn as compared to Rs. 965 mn posted in the corresponding quarter last year, a growth of 4%.

For the financial year ended March 2009, Shopper's Stop reported gross retail turnover of Rs.13825 mn as against Rs. 11901 mn in March 2008; reporting a jump of 16 %. The gross margin stood at Rs. 4380 mn as against Rs. 3810 mn during the same period last year.

Mr. Govind Shrikhande, Customer Care Associate & CEO of Shopper's Stop Ltd., said: “Our customer loyalty programme has been growing strongly and is now contributing to 72% of our sales.”

During the fourth quarter, Shoppers Stop signed a MoU with Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Ltd (ABCTCL) to convert all the existing cafés at Shoppers Stop to Café Coffee Day outlets.
