Inditex bags 'Multi Market Retailer of the Year' Award at WRC

Inditex was named 'Multi Market Retailer of the Year' at the World Retail Awards in Barcelona last night.

The company saw off fierce competition to scoop the prestigious Global prize, which was presented at the Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) during the annual World Retail Congress in Barcelona.

Inditex, which boasts more than 4,260 stores in 73 countries, has established itself as one of the world's largest fashion retailers. Operating its multi-fascia strategy, built primarily around the Zara brand, Inditex increased profits and sales in all its territories last year and delivered EBITDA growth of 4 per cent to €2.2bn. Inditex is continuing to push into new territories as well as launching another new format – accessories business Uterqüe.

In winning the award, Inditex triumphed over a strong shortlist, including:
• Aldi
• Fast Retailing
• Koton
• Mothercare
• Pinault Printemps La Redoute

Voted for by some of the world's most respected industry experts, 'Multi Market Retailer of the Year' seeks to recognise those retailers that are trading successfully in multiple countries, and whose business models stand out as world-class exponents of international retailing.

Now in its third year, the 2009 World Retail Awards is held in partnership with Oracle, and forms a major, and growing, part of the World Retail Congress.

• Retailer of the Year - Apple Retail
• Outstanding Leadership Award – Ron Johnson, Senior Vice President of Retail, Apple Inc
