Pringle of Scotland brings Pringle 1815 womenswear spring/summer 2009. Fresh swathes of hyper-stylised English-garden florals mixed with neat ginghams abound amidst horizontal stripes and statement block prints; clean, graphic bursts super-impose upon each other, moving through esoteric patterns and touching ethnic nuances. Surreal colour clashes drench with intensity; violet and orange, vintage blush and hot pink evolve into pops of lime and suntan tones of burnt umber, mounted on canvasses of black and white.

Texture emboldens plays on contrast; structured wovens heighten the sheer fluidity of knits, and elements of intricate pleating, ladder stitch and origami tracings adorn, often in contrast tones.

Playful reworkings flip established forms; argyle morphs into a graphic diamond print, and a two-tone jacquard playsuit affirms retro references with shortsleeved collared detail. Embroidered checked shirts and easy trenches assert a masculine edge, whilst tulip and puff-sleeves twist into new forms on easy dresses and shirtings. Narrow pants are clipped to capri length or cropped to above the ankle, bleached denim shorts sit high on the waist fastened with self-belt.

Structure plays against soft movement, and then moves toward loose, free shapes, evocative of ethnic ibiza. Swing-pleat skirts overlaid with graphic blocked stripes or short-sleeved gingham baby-dolls give way to fluid trapeze dresses skimming thighs in silky knits or supple cotton-bamboo mixes; block-printed, lightly beaded or traced with tiered horizontal stripes.
