Alongside the collections that were presented, the success of the Fashion Show was guaranteed by the stature of the cast of models employed, not to mention the considerable professionalism of the team that was chosen to coordinate the different fashion parades. All of these aspects ensured widespread media coverage of the Fashion Show, which, together with the fair itself, managed to generate nearly 180 reports in the media.

A total of 25 brands specialising in First Communion suits and dresses took part at this seventh edition of PUERTA DE EUROPA, an event that also serves as a leading point of reference for the First Communion market. The exhibition presented a complete overview of the latest trends within this market segment, based on a number of up-to-date ideas that combine designer appeal, creativity and tradition. Among the companies participating at this edition, we might highlight, among others, Devota&Lomba, Francis Montesinos, Hannibal Laguna, Marla, Nieto Mora, Amalio Rubio, María Luisa Mora, Alas de Icaro, Carmy, Creaciones Marfe and Creaciones Suay.

The seventh edition of PUERTA DE EUROPA also provided the setting for the staging of the Eighth PUERTA DE EUROPA Wedding Competition for New Designers. Sustainability and preservation of the environment through recycling constituted the theme that was chosen for the entries at this edition of the Competition. In total, some 115 original designs (in sketch format) have been presented in the following categories: Bridal Gowns, Bridegroom Attire and Party-Wear. All the creations have been produced using materials from other fields, recycled for the purposes of wedding fashion.

A Jury made up of the designers, Modesto Lomba, Duyos and Petro Valverde and fashion experts chose the three winners among the five best works. Sandra Marín Rodríguez was the winner of the First Prize and was awarded 1,100 euros, Elisa Muñoz Navarro won the Second Prize and received 700 euros, whilst Leandro Cano Duque won the Third Prize, receiving 400 euros.

The Spanish Wedding Fashion and First Communion Market
Spain has one of the leading wedding fashion markets in the world. Its industrial fabric is made up of 822 companies, whose turnover in the year 2007 came to 1,489 million euros, according to EXPOTECNIC and the Puerta de Europa Wedding Fashion Manufacturers and Importers Association (ANPE).

As far as foreign trade is concerned, in the year 2007 Spain exported wedding fashion products valued at 416 million euros, compared to a figure of 152 million euros under the heading of imports, which results in a balance of trade that is favourable to Spain equivalent to 264 million euros.

With regard to the First Communion market, in the year 2008 the industry achieved a turnover of 80 million euros, according to figures furnished by the Spanish Wedding Fashion Association.

The next edition of CIBELES MADRID NOVIAS presents some excellent prospects. The favourable trading climate witnessed at the last edition and the declaration on the part of a number of key players within the industry that they intended to take part at the next edition, shape some excellent prospects for the next edition of this fair, whose dates will be announced in June, following the corresponding meeting of the fair's Organising Committee.
