American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) President and CEO Kevin M. Burke today congratulated new Consumer Product Safety Commission Chair Inez M. Tenenbaum on her swift confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
“I am pleased that the Senate has acted quickly to confirm Chairperson Tenenbaum to be the new head of the CPSC. We can now begin the process of working together to overcome the serious hurdles the U.S. apparel and footwear industry has encountered because of the recently enacted Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
“By issuing clear and comprehensive guidance to manufacturers and retailers, allowing common-sense exemptions, and working closely with Congress to implement needed changes, the CPSC can create a predictable regulatory framework under which U.S. apparel and footwear producers can continue making safe products for our children.
“AAFA looks forward to a quick confirmation process for Mr. Robert Adler and the selection of a fifth commissioner to join Chairperson Tenenbaum on the Commission.”
