Aug '09
There will be a sharing of textile expertise among India and Trinidad and Tobago under an agreement on Fashion Technology, which would be in form of collaboration between India's Institute of Fashion Technology and the University of Trinidad and Tobago's Caribbean Academy of Fashion Designing, in order to develop exchanges among students, plan courses and provide faculty.

This was informed by the Indian High Commissioner Mr. Malay Mishra, who further said that the requests have also been received by the Indian Government from Trinidad and Tobago to cooperate in the areas of IT, healthcare, agriculture and security. The experts in the field of renewable energy and ocean development can possibly be brought in, in the future, he added.

He further said that the development of this bilateral cooperation program is based on several pillars such as IT, culture, trade, education and training, agriculture, technical assistance, science and technology, which the country is sharing with Trinidad and Tobago, he added, citing these areas as the strengths of the country.

India has built very strong and positive relations with this Caribbean nation in many areas. These relations would be consolidated further for the betterment and development of our people, said Mr. Mishra.

About 44 percent of the 1.3 million people in Trinidad and Tobago constitute the Indian Diaspora. India's Independence Day holds great reverence to these 44 percents' here. Forefathers of these 44 percent people had come from India, particularly from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to work on the sugar plantations and to boost agricultural production.
