Local designers pay homeage to Barbie

Prepare for a tribute to World renowned trademark doll Barbie's 50th Birthday at this year's SSAFW Winter Collections 2010 in full fashion steam. Abigail Betz, Guillotine's Lisa Jaffe, couture renowned David Tlale, Gideon as well as winners of the Barbie inspired University of Johannesburg Department of Fashion Design project are amongst the few designers who will showcase in compliment to the forever young Barbie.

Inside Track: Jewellery from the DE BEERS Southern Africa Shining Light collection is set to spread the sparkle for the shows.

For a true Barbie experience, doors to open at 20h45 on September 16th outside the runway at the Sandton Convention Centre, promise an ultimate showcase of five decades of a global fashion icon at the Barbie Gallery.

Set to run concurrently with the Winter Collections 2010 from 09:00 am - 18h00 is Barbie's official pick and drop tea party for official fans at plush Morningside's Cup restaurant. Succulent Barbie inspired cupcakes, coffees and smoothies will be on offer. To be part of the action, book a ticket at the Barbie Showroom at the SSAFW Exhibition.

Inside Track: 5FM's vinyl spinning Erica Elle and fresh Dj duo Digital Diva are to close off the opening night of the Winter Collections 2010 at the official Barbie afterparty at flashy Melrose Arch's The Venue. Doors open at 21h30.

JSF joins forces with SSAFW
Shoppers can be sure to witness a pervasive buzz in Jozi this September as SSAFW and the Joburg Shopping Festival partner to produce events in aim of developing the dynamic and growing retail sector. JSF, Africa's largest retail and wholesale shopping, entertainment and cultural tourism event and SA's premier fashion platform are collectively set to make the modern shopper's life enjoyable by bringing in live music, theatre, dance and entertainment around participating retail nodes and malls.
