Anand Kabra's amazing asymmetric feminine collection for spring/summer 2010 created magic at lakme fashion week. His themes are always unpredictable and unconventional. From the Japanese Sun to a cracked mirror; Anand Kabra's inspirations have been so extraordinary yet utterly feminine in form and colour.

His Spring/Summer 2010 collection titled “Kumari” at Lakme Fashion Week was inspired by a story of the two faces of a woman - pure and beautiful as a goddess or a temptress at other times. Anand's theme came through in his creations, as he presented simple yet intricate work which reflected the two facades of his fashion statement.

Asymmetry was the basis of Anand's creative story whether it was for collars, sleeves, hemlines, shoulders and even button closures. The motifs were constant – the diya, and tilakam or tikka in elongated or circular forms which appeared in print or shimmering gold or silver embroidery.

Colours were muted and matched the theme of the collection – ivory, white, turmeric pewter and ash and of course sindoor red. From interestingly woven saris in horizontal panels and weaves of Kanjeevaram with tulle interspersed with glittering dori motifs; to shimmering dhoti pants in brown and gold, a dazzling silver cocktail mini, relaxed jumpsuits, shorts, tiny wrapped satin cotton dress and a wonderful side draped halter dress - the look was pure feminine and elegant. Fabrics were sheer chiffon, satin, silk and cotton.

While the designer was restraint in his use of the wide gota borders for the sari or panels that ran down the front of the tunics; at other times Anand was ultra lavish with his bling almost dazzling the audience.

What made Anand's collection truly arresting in style, silhouette, colour and fabric was the interesting use of construction and drape which almost gave the creations a Zen like appearance of gentle beauty. The designer ended the show with some stunners - a royal zardozi lace sherwani over white tunic, a paisley embroidery white lehenga with asymmetric tunic and a stunning plunge 'V' neck slender midi.

Anand Kabra's “Kumari” collection once again proved that the designer knows exactly how to dress a woman irrespective of her moods and personality.
