Organisers and participants are hailing the strong international presence at the recent AW10 AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR as a sign of growing global optimism. Comprising 8,218 visits over three days, the AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR - along with the co-located Fashion Exposed, preview and Bags & Accessories Fair - welcomed attendees from 15 countries and regions.

In addition to those from Australia and New Zealand, visitors travelled from China, Egypt, France,Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain and Thailand. Taking place from August 30 to September 1 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, the trade fair was also characterised by an exciting line-up of international exhibitors, many of them showing for the first time.

Overseas brands included: Duck Feet from Denmark; Colette from Singapore; Canterbury Sheepskin from New Zealand; Stegman from Germany; Flojos from Spain; Cipo & Baxx from Turkey; Hey Dude from Italy; Italian designed Axel Vani; NAOT from Israel; Terrasoles & Carn from the UK, as well as global brands Crocs and Airbox.

Meanwhile quality, design and attainable price points proved the unique point of difference for a special Argentine showcase hosted by the Argentine Footwear Chamber. Labels on show at the "Shoes from Argentina" stand included shoe brands Norwich, Sucre, Pietra's, IWO Ilicia, Bonaparte, Gaelle, Perugia Express, Pull-man, Riacal and My Way. Also on display were handbag brands Humawaca, Pasión Argentina, Mi and Pe.

“Shoes from Argentina” exhibitors were delighted with local media coverage garnered through their presence at the trade fair. Foreign language Channel 31 scheduled a Spanish speaking slot on Sunday September 6 covering their participation, while the following Sunday saw the airing of a feature on Tito Gonzalez of Bags of Oz.

Argentine Footwear Chamber spokesperson Paulina Campión described the AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR as a landmark for the Argentine footwear industry. "This [was] a perfect opportunity for Australian consumers to know and appreciate the high-quality design of Argentine footwear and learn how competitive it is. Australia is a stable and attractive market worth exploring."

Marie Kinsella, Managing Director of AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR organiser Australian Exhibitions & Conferences Pty. Ltd., said future showcases would build on the stand's success to date. “We were very pleased to see the immediate success of the “Shoes from Argentina” pavilion, with on-site orders placed from the first day. We hope other Latin American countries will follow Argentina's lead and recognise the value of exhibiting at AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR.”

Australian brands also boosted their international business through their presence at the AUSTRALIAN SHOE FAIR.Local designer footwear label Esther Perez has renewed an agreement to dress models at the fashion show of top designer Ika Butoni in Hong Kong next year, having worked with Butoni on the same show last July.
