Creative Pearls for young talented students

Pearl Academy of Fashion, India's leading fashion and design institute organized the prize distribution ceremony and exhibition for “Creative Pearls” an annual competition for the young talented school students of the country at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

More than 750 students of class X, XI & XII from 79 schools across the country participated in bouquet of creative competitions like dress design, fabric painting on T-shirt, short film, photo feature and essay writing.

Creative Pearls is an annual initiative from Pearl Academy of Fashion which intends to provide students with a common platform to expose their creativity. This year's competitions were divided into two parts – submissions based and sit in based. Dress design, fabric painting on t-shirt and essay writing were sit in competitions while short film and photo feature were submission based.

Regional qualifying rounds took place in Delhi, Jaipur and Chennai on December 18, 2009 and the final round was held in Delhi in the last week of January 2010. Students were given unusual topics for these competitions like 'Make-over of an Indian politician' for dress design, 'Bharat Dekho' for short film making and 'Mall Mania' for essay writing. Similarly, students painted on 'Changing India' for T-shirt painting competition and 'Shoot a Shop' for photo features category.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A.K.G. Nair, Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion said, “We are extremely happy with the overwhelming response that we received for the Creative Pearls in all three centers. The main objective of Creative Pearls is to recognize and nurture the future creative professionals and to accelerate the process of enrichment to their knowledge by providing them a proper and effective platform. This year, we had decided to scale up the event to a national level competition and evolve it into one which gains resonance in various cities across India.”

An exhibition was also organized at the venue showcasing the creations of the students in dress design, fabric painting on T-shirt, short film, photo feature and essay writing. Mandira Wirk, one of India's famous fashion designers and also an Alumnus of Pearl Academy of Fashion was the Chief Guest and encouraged the students.
