Abu Dhabi is the number one market in the Middle East region for tourism to South Korea and offers the most potential for growth, according to Kim Baeho, Regional Director of Visit Korea.

More than 1,500 UAE nationals travelled to South Korea in 2009 and since a nuclear deal between the two countries was signed in January 2010, awareness and interest levels in the Asian country have significantly increased.

Baeho made the comments about the strong ties between the UAE and South Korea from the Visit Korea exhibition stand at The Bride Show Abu Dhabi. Capitalising upon their success at The Bride Shows in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 2009, the emphasis at this year's wedding exhibition is to grow the honeymoon market and promote Seoul and the Jeju Islands as ideal destinations to start married life.

The popularity of Seoul around the world and particularly in the Middle Eastern region is growing fast due to the city's reputation as a safe, family-friendly, clean and cosmopolitan place to visit. The only Asian city to boast a 24-hour shopping culture, South Korea's capital is known as the city of tradition and technology.

Adding a further taste of Asia, and new to The Bride Show Abu Dhabi this year is the Singapore Tourism Board, using the four day wedding extravaganza as a platform to meet brides-to-be to talk to them about the country.

With Muslims accounting for approximately 16 per cent of the population, Singapore is well established in catering to the needs of UAE national tourists; some 51,000 people travelled to there from the UAE in 2009.

Relations between the UAE and Singapore are strong; a UAE Foreign Ministry delegation, led by Director of Consular Affairs Sultan Al-Qurtasi visited Singapore in December 2009.

“This is the first time we have taken part in a consumer exhibition, but we feel it is a great way to meet the local community and tell them why Singapore is such a good year-round destinations for both newlywed couples and families,” said Jason Ong, Area Director, Singapore Tourism Board.

“We have had a good level of enquiries from women who are planning their weddings and honeymoons and expect the number of people choosing Singapore as their honeymoon of choice to increase in 2010.”

Visitors to The Bride Show Abu Dhabi have the chance to experience both Seoul and Singapore in prize draw competitions. One lucky visitor will win a three night honeymoon to Seoul, courtesy of Visit Korea, with flights and five-star accommodation provided. Meanwhile, three nights at the Ritz Carlton Millenia in Singapore is up for grabs for all those who enter the draw.

The Bride Show Abu Dhabi, taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre until Saturday 13 February under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif, wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, offers brides-to-be and her family a one stop shop to planning a wedding.
