Fashion exports to surpass 9% in 2010, DEP

For the leather sector, local manufacturers will benefit significantly from the visionary initiative, Thailand's Leather Goods: Italy of the East, which focuses on research and development as well as Thai brand building among other strategies.

Mrs. Srirat pointed out, “To help Thai manufacturers make the most of associated FTAs including AFTA, FTA ASEAN-China, FTA Thai-India, FTA ASEAN-India, FTA ASEAN-Japan and FTA ASEAN–South Korea as well as JTEPA, DEP is conducting an intensive study on essential deregulation and reduction of trade restrictions. We believe this effort will help increase exports to key markets, especially Japan that considers Thailand as textile and garment manufacturing hub for ASEAN.”

DEP also expects BIFF & BIL 2010 to help encourage the rise of Thai and ASEAN fashion products in the global marketplace.

She said it would be a promising trade assembly for exhibitors and their prospective buyers from Japan, India, Korea, China, Taiwan, the Middle East well as America and Europe. With a complete range of products, services and material solutions on offer, covering everything from upstream, midstream to downstream sectors, the buyers will be given an opportunity to seek collaborations and trade relationship with leading ASEAN manufacturers.

Harnessing the theme, Look East, this year's mega event concentrates on showcasing the ASEAN brilliant fashion capability under the ASEAN INTEGRATION initiative.

To help match up supply and demand perfectly, the event will also play host to Asian Designer Congress and Thailand Designer Contest, and be packed with a series of conferences and seminars, 48 fashion shows, ASEAN Pavilion, Japan Pavilion, to name a few.

BIFF & BIL 2010 will be held on April 1-4, 2010 at Challenger Hall 1 – 3.
