• Gen Next and Emerging platforms receiving submissions from places such as London, Dubai, Dhaka and Kowloon; testimony to the international appeal and reach of LFW

With the LFW Advisory Board meeting scheduled next week, the applications will go through a rigorous screening process to qualify for the final selections. Pioneered by Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in 2006, both Gen Next and Emerging platforms are aimed at discovering and nurturing fashion design talent in India. This is testimony to LFW's mission of 'Defining the future of Fashion'.

Staying ahead of the game, LFW has always initiated long term strategies and programs to bring new business opportunities for Indian fashion. Last season, LFW moved towards customizing the fashion week platform to the Indian market and introduced 'Resort' which has tremendous international appeal and resulted in significant business for showcasing designers. LFW continues in this vein by focusing on the current season with LFW Winter/Festive 2010 which will weave in the importance of Indian festivals and the fashion that is prevalent in Indian society during the coming months; thereby, facilitating and showcasing more Indian season relevant lines.

Anil Chopra, Advisor, Lakme said, “We are pleased with the overwhelming response received for LFW Winter / Festive 2010. In the first decade, LFW introduced the Gen Next & Emerging Designer platform with the vision of bringing to the forefront great minds and encouraging new talent. In its second decade, LFW takes thought leadership and innovation to the next level with unique initiatives like the strategic shift, Resort Wear and the upcoming Winter / Festive 2010. In the years to come, LFW will continue its quest for creative talent and provide the country with cutting edge fashion designers.”

Sujal Shah, Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG–India said, “Original thinking and new ideas are the foundation on which we have built Lakme Fashion Week. LFW Gen Next & Emerging designers have always provided a fresh perspective anda spirit of innovation to the industry. In fact, many established names today began their fashion journey with this platform. The overall 66 percent increase of the combined Gen Next and Emerging applications clearly demarcates the significance and reach of the platforms. LFW will continue to be the leader in investing and supporting young talent as they shape the future of Indian fashion trade.”

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) is a jointly organised by Lakmé, the No.1 cosmetics and beauty services brand in India and IMG, the global leader in fashion weeks and event production.
