NY State's First Lady graces catwalk at Couture Fashion Week

The excitement and festivities of Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on the evening of Saturday September 11, 2010 offered a delightful spectacle of high fashion, theatrics and unexpected guests. The fashion show by designer and Couture Fashion Week producer Andres Aquino had the additional goal to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research in association with the Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure.

A continuation of Mr. Aquino's fashion journey, the latest innovative collection is inspired by classic romantic Latin songs and his own poetry about feminine beauty.

A range of international models showed off New York City's ethnic and cultural diversity and included such personalities as Miss Pakistan USA, Miss Massachusetts and Miss Germany. Mr. Craig Schley, a former Ford model now running as an Independent candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, escorted the model in the stunning bridal gown down the runway. But the night belonged to the First Lady of New York State, Michelle Paige Paterson.

Mrs. Paterson charmed the standing-room-only audience in the Grand Ballroom in a dazzling white and gold gown with hand crafted feather detailing, accessorized with one-of-a-kind jewelry by Alejandra in Design and shoes by Goara. With her striking height and beauty Mrs. Paterson fit right in with the rest of the runway models and was greeted with enthusiastic applause when she took a bow with Mr. Aquino during the final parade of the show.

This season Mr. Aquino also designed a special pink gown for Dara Richardson-Heron, CEO of the Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure.

The event was covered by national and international press including RTL - Germany's largest TV network, China's NTDTV, Vogue India, and other major media from Pakistan, Italy, the Middle East, and South America among other areas. The audience included top socialites, VIPs, upscale fashion consumers and fashion buyers from upscale stores around the globe.

A number of other celebrities and performers took part in the evening's presentation including actress and singer Ashley C. Williams (star of the film “The Human Centipede”) accompanied by Russian pianist Prince Igor; Italian pop and jazz singer Cecilia Herrera Frioni who flew in especially for the occasion; jazz singer Sarah Elizabeth Charles accompanied by pianist Jesse Elder and bassist Ian Baggette; championship ballroom dancers Ting Ting & Michael; and the New York-based Cecilia Marta Dance Company. Hair styling for the show was done by Desiree Burris of Chevogue, and the makeup was expertly done by Tomy Rivero and team using cosmetics provided by MD Minerals by Dr. Janine Hopkins, the Official Makeup Sponsor of Couture Fashion Week this season.

Mr. Aquino recently received the “Style Fashion Leader & Inspiration Award” from SUNY Westchester Community College, and has been dubbed the "Urban Renaissance Man" by Latino Future magazine. The New York-based designer and producer has been featured in numerous publications and TV programs in Italy, Russia, Dubai, China, India and other countries. His designs have been seen in Collezioni Haute Couture, Book Moda, NTDTV, Bond, ModaStyle International, Arabian Business, World News and many more.
