Continuum 2010 highlights enormous opportunities of retail sector

Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), one of the premier fashion and design institutes in the country, in association with LDT Nagold, Germany organized an International Conference on fashion retail and marketing titled “Continuum 2010” at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Various important issues pertaining to the fashion retail and marketing like future of retail industry, latest trends in the retail industry, challenges faced by the industry and what can be done to improve the conditions were discussed by some of the renowned names in the industry. There was also a discussion on foreign brands who want to invest in the Indian market and how will this step change the whole prospects of the existing industry.

Prominent personalities of the retail industry like Mr. B.S. Nagesh, Vice Chairman of Shopper's Stop, Mr. Sanjeev Mohanty, MD, United Colors of Benetton, Mr. Anupam Bansal, Director, Liberty Group, Mr. Shailesh Chaturvedi, CEO, Tommy Hilfiger India were present on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. A.K.G Nair, Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion said, “Continuum 2010 is the sequel of cumulative efforts highlighting and focusing upon the most dynamic and vibrant force of business change. We need to design our retail business for sustainable profit year after year. This conference will bring together the Indian and the overseas luminaries on the subject to share their insights and visions on managing the retail turbulence ahead.”

Highlighting the enormous opportunities of the retail sector, Mr. Sanjeev Mohanty, Managing Director, United Colors of Benetton said, “India is being seen as a potential market for retail investors from all over the world and is expected to grow stronger than GDP growth in the next five years driven by changing lifestyles, increasing income and favorable demographic outline. It will create more and more employment opportunities in the near future.”

Speaking on the occasion Mr. B.S. Nagesh, Vice Chairman of Shopper's Stop said, “The retail sector is booming in India, but there are some areas where we have a long way to go to compete with some advanced markets. The scenario is that the skill-sets of the professionals in this sector have to be improved to a great extent. Hence we need more and more institutes to come up and fill up the gap.”

Emphasizing the need of a well organized retail sector in India, Mr. Shailesh Chaturvedi CEO, Tommy Hilfiger India said, “Indian retail industry is growing at a tremendous speed, especially over the last few years. Though initially, the retail industry in India was mostly unorganized, however with the change of tastes and preferences of the consumers, the industry is getting more popular these days and getting organized as well.”

Applauding on PAF's initiation for Continuum 2010 Mr. Anupam Bansal Said Director, Liberty Group said, “Continuum 2010 is a commendable initiation taken by Pearl Academy of Fashion which will facilitate to create a platform to share and exchange thoughts by the industry leaders, professionals, academicians as well as student community.”
