An outstanding line-up of new, emerging and high-profile New Zealand fashion designers is set to thrill audiences in the twelfth annual iD Dunedin Fashion Show to be held in Dunedin on Friday 8 April and Saturday 9 April 2011.

Unprecedented demand from designers within New Zealand to showcase their collections will see sixteen labels from established and emerging fashion designers take part in two popular iD Fashion Show events. The shows will take place on the platform of the Dunedin Railway Station, famous for the 110m-long catwalk and culminate a series of exciting fashion events planned for the 2011 iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

Key Points

• Dunedin is fast becoming known as 'a city giving birth to a fashion scene'. To illustrate the talent emerging from the city, the shows feature high-profile labels showcasing their winter collections including; Nom*D, Carlson, Mild Red, Charmaine Reveley, Twenty-seven names and Company of Strangers, alongside Wellington-based designer Lela Jacobs. New to iD is renowned Auckland-based footwear designer Kathryn Wilson, following up her recent debut at New Zealand Fashion Week.

• The 2011 capsule collections will feature eight mini collections from labels with strong Dunedin connections including Elusiv, DADA, Vaughan Geeson, Lou and Ash and a joint showcase by the Cooper sisters, Tamsin and Emily, with their respective labels Tamsin Cooper and Silkbody. Three exciting new designers will debut at the iD shows Richard Moore (formerly label Dot Com), Maaike (Abbey van Schreven) and Katie-maree Cole. All three are graduates of the Otago Polytechnic Fashion School.

• Completing the line-up of designers will be the best of the 2010 Otago Polytechnic School of Fashion graduates, who will show their designs alongside the winners from the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards show. These finalists are yet to be announced.

• Watch out for further details of the 2011 iD Dunedin Fashion Week including International Emerging Designer Awards finalists, special guest designers, judges, VIPs and release dates for ticket sales.

Quotes

Susie Staley – chair of iD Fashion Committee
“There was an unprecedented response from designers to be part of the 2011 event, with twice as many designers applying as there were places for. The shows will feature a hotbed of talented New Zealand designers, who all stock in local Dunedin retail outlets. New for 2011 will be a showcase of extraordinary footwear by Kathryn Wilson and a joint collaboration by Dunedin's designer sisters, Tamsin and Emily Cooper.”

Dan Ahwa, editor (Apparel magazine) and freelance fashion editor
"All applicants presented strong collections that were individual in their own unique way. The selected designers will showcase cohesive collections that resonate on the runway, particularly the capsule collections which feature a handful of designers who will debut at iD Dunedin 2011. The final collections chosen were well rounded, had runway appeal and that the public would enjoy. I'm looking forward to seeing iD favourites share the runway with some of the most exciting emerging designers we've seen in years."
