Essex-based fashion retailer, Lewis Yates has been awarded 'Best New Business'at the Drapers Awards 2010. As the Oscars of the fashion industry, the winners of the 20th Anniversary Drapers Awards were announced on Thursday 18th November at Grosvenor House, London.

The glamorous event, presented by model Lisa Snowdon, was attended by key industry figures to celebrate and commend the very best in fashion. In the affluent Essex heartland of Billericay, Lewis Yates first opened its doors in October 2008, with the concept of bringing fresh and exclusive fashion to both men and women in Essex, whist providing excellent customer service.

The business was the brainchild of Lewis Tweddell, a 24 year old Harlow-born Essex lad, who had previously worked in a failing independent fashion boutique. During his time spent at the store he identified where mistakes were being made and built relationships with customers and suppliers.

The business was liquidated which gave Lewis the opportunity to step forward and create a new brand of high street retailers that would finally meet the needs of his customer base. Lewis rebuilt the shop with a range of handpicked brands delivering a unique feel to every day fashion including See by Chloe, Vivienne Westwood, Seven, Mulberry and Hudson. The experience for each client remains unique and the store is often praised for going that extra mile, offering services such as same day tailoring, personal shopping and style advice.

The Editor of Drapers Magazine, Jessica Brown spoke at the event, saying: “Brushing away the cobwebs of its old image, this glossy unisex operator has a new owner with an energetic approach to inspiring and retaining customers. Lewis Yates raises its game against competitors with its multi-channel approach to retail and infotainment, tracking shoppers through innovative mobile and internet marketing initiatives. With a sumptuous interior to match this high class approach, Lewis Yates has a great foundation upon which to build a bright future.”

Lewis Tweddell responded by saying: “We are honoured, slightly shocked and absolutely thrilled at receiving this award. It means so much to me and my team. We have worked hard over the past two years to create a brand which is fresh and exciting, whatever your age or size. We have a brand which has all of the same concepts as a high street fashion boutique, yet products which are often hidden away in West End stores and we bolster this together with a service which supports each individual customer's needs, going the extra mile wherever we possibly can.”

“We have fought-off tough competition from right across the UK and this award proves to us that we can hold our own in an industry which is ever-changing, regardless of our location.” Jason Lynch, the Managing Director of the award sponsor, Noa Noa said: “On behalf of NOA NOA am very proud to congratulate Lewis Yates on the achievement of winning this award. Our industry needs constant re energizing and new ventures to keep the high street fresh and exciting and Lewis Yates has certainly helped in providing the public with sucha fantastic store.”

Lewis Tweddell ended by saying: “At such a thrilling time for us, we are very mindful of the fact that all of this has only been possible due to the fantastic customer base we have. Naturally, we hope new customers will visit in the weeks and month ahead and see what we have to offer.
