Prerna Dhawan wins SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS awards

SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, the world's leading producer of cut crystal for jewellery, fashion and interiors, presented the inaugural SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Jewellery design awards in New Delhi at The Olive, Qutab.

The 1st SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Jewellery design awards drew an enthusiastic response with over 500 entries from across the country including jewelry designers, couture designers, prestigious Indian jewellery brands, design students and master craftsmen. SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS available in myriad colours, effects, shapes and sizes, provided a fabulous palette of inspiration for the designers to create jewellery pieces that will set new trends. Prerna Dhawan was the winner of first SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Jewellery design awards.

The 40 most creative jewellery designs submitted were developed into actual jewellery pieces made with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. A further short list of 20 pieces based on originality, innovation and quality of manufacturing were presented at the awards evening via a ramp show.

In a glittering celebration attended by key members of the jewellery industry, fashion designers and trend experts among others, the stunning jewellery pieces made with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS sculpted for the awards were presented by models dressed in ensembles by designers Shantanu-Nikhil that sparkled with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. Adjudging the winning designs was an independent jury comprising of designers Farah Khan Ali, JJ Valaya, , Rohit Bal, Suneet Verma, Tarun Tahiliani, Michael Boy, Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts, Dr. Rajendra Bhola, senior representative of Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India, Nonita Kalra, Editor Elle, Nina Haridas Editor, Marie Claire, Preetika Mathew Sahay, Associate Editor Harpers Bazaar and Ambika Anand, Anchor editor NDTV Good Times.

The SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Jewellery Design Awards proved to be a much needed platform to showcase the best talents from the jewellery industry in India. The winner and first runner up of this prestigious award were honoured with a visit to the SWAROVSKI Headquarters in Wattens, Austria for a jewelry trend and application technique workshop and a visit to the Crystal Worlds museum.

Speaking on this occasion, Sanjay Sharma, Director, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, Swarovski India Pvt. Ltd. said, “In keeping with Swarovski's commitment to foster fashion and design's brightest emerging stars, we are delighted to introduce the first ever SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Jewellery Design Awards in India. We are pleased at the high level of interest and the quality of talent seen in this first edition of the awards. These young and promising jewellery designers have exhibited tremendous talent in their original innovative creations using SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS with high-quality materials and exquisite craftsmanship. The Awards seek to inspire talented designers to come up with original concepts and draw out latent design abilities.”

He further added that “The tremendous response from the participants also reflects a natural affinity, passion and growing demand for jewellery. SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS aims to fuel this passion and be a catalyst by encouraging jewellery designers in taking the opportunity to satisfy this fast growing demand for high end fashion jewellery in India.”

Shantanu & Nikhil were the official ensemble partners for the show.

Chivas 18 were the spirits sponsors for the celebrated evening.

Gitanjali Gems Ltd., Kuh-johl (a division of SSIL), Swarnmandir and C Krishniah Chetty and Sons and sons partnered to manufacture the jewellery pieces and bring to life the designers vision.
