Michael Young creates Trussardi My Design - 100 collection

On April 12, 2011, for the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Trussardi presents the Trussardi MY Design – 100 Collection. Designed by Michael Young to epitomize the values of the fashion house and to celebrate the brand's 100th anniversary, this new collection is another example of Trussardi Group's commitment to promoting new Italian excellence in design, fashion, art, and food.
Trussardi has always been committed to research and innovation since its establishment in 1911. In the eighties and nineties, the brand expressed a lifestyle full of objects and products that have become part of the archives that inspired the new Trussardi Design collections. From the Inside desk objects in briarwood and silver and the Trussardi telephone to prestigious partnerships with Alitalia, Alfa Romeo, Vespa, Mini, and Busnelli and the Trussardi bicycle, an icon of elegance, Trussardi projects combine artisan tradition and absolute quality with contemporary shapes and style.
Michael Young's collection is the result of his research of Trussardi's archives to analyze the history of the brand and its values and transform it into inspiration for his new contemporary products. The 100 Collection combines the distinctive values of the fashion house and its outstanding Italian quality, with the ability to develop new materials and new technologies typical of Asia. The new collection combines 100 years of Italian leather-working expertise with the shapes and technologies of contemporary Asia.
Since he moved his studio to Hong Kong five years ago, the British designer has focused on creating links between contemporary design and the technical abilities of the local Chinese industry. The 100 Collection provides new insight in the dialog between East and West and is the essence of high quality, style, and technological innovation.
For this occasion, Michael Young also designed a monumental installation on Piazza della Scala using Links, high-tech gilt aluminum modules that required more than two years of study. With the four basic elements of the Links it is possible to build infinite modular structures, light, extremely flexible and easy to transport.
The installation embraces the statue of Leonardo da Vinci – a symbol of the relationship between man and technology – and will be visible throughout the period of the Salone del Mobile until April 18, 2011. The Links continue inside Palazzo Trussardi Alla Scala with a special setup for the exhibit spaces of the Trussardi MY Design – 100 Collection.
Michael Young was born in Sunderland, England, in 1966. He lives and works in Hong Kong. He opened his first studio, MY-022 Ltd, in London in 1994. After gaining valuable experience working in Belgium and Iceland, he inaugurated the Michael Young Studio in Hong Kong in 2006. In 2002, he was the Guest of Honor at the International Design Biennial in Belgium.
