Adirée to present Africa Fashion Week New York

Africa Fashion Week (New York) (AFWNY) will be held during the week of July 11-17, 2011 (Mayor Bloomberg, the mayor of New York gave it an official proclamation).

Adirée (the fashion week executive producers), partners and sponsors will host AFWNY in New York, NY.

AFWNY is a luxury multi-day event that will include runway shows, exhibitions, and industry networking events with the sole purpose of raising awareness of the African/African American/Afro-Caribbean fashion & entertainment professionals in New York and Tri-State area.

Participants

AFWNY 2010 gathered over 1,500 industry insiders, over two (2) days, from around the world ; buyers, retailers, celebrities, socialites, models, VIPs, diplomats and members of the regional, national and international press. Press in attendance included Essence Magazine, BlueFly, Honey Magazine, Ladybrille Magazine, GalaxyTV, Black Star News, and The African Network to cite a few.

Ambassadors and Ministers from African embassies and missions throughout the United States were present to support the initiative that is AFWNY and witness its historical significance.

Designers, Artists & Stylists

Over 20 designers from across Africa displayed their collection using Black, Hispanic, Caucasian, and Asian models.

Countries represented included Cameroon, Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Tanzania.

Twenty freelance makeup artists and 25 hair stylists travelled from Washington, Connecticut and Boston to create one of a kind looks inspired by designers 'collection.
