Fashion Designer Yuliana Candra of the Line BlacMéra Presents a Collection of Culturally Inspired, Ready-to-Wear Couture at Agenda Loft in Downtown LA on April 28, 2011 from 7-10pm.

“When little girls play princess with their Barbie, I played fashion designer with my mom's scrap fabrics. I was drawn to “make things” whether it's sculpting, carving, or making clothes.” – Fashion Designer Yuliana Candra

Whether it's designing tunics with original art (painted by artisans and photographed by the designer herself), or putting the final touches on a finely crafted couture evening gown, fashion designer Yuliana Candra of BlacMéra is busy doing both by preparing to launch her premier collection, which will be held at Agenda Loft in Downtown LA on April 28, 2011 from 7-10pm. Yuliana is a very talented and multi-faceted designer with a vast background in culinary writing, travel photography, and competitive ballroom and Latin dancing.

“I used to make my own competitive dancewear and for other people. There is such a free flow of thinking in designing dancewear. There is no limit, and I enjoyed it tremendously. The dancers are bold, creative, dare to be different, and of course they are blessed with the perfect figure. They became my living mannequins. It was also a great platform for me to push myself to create the mindset of designing pieces that were ultra complicated to construct. Even today you can still see the dancer characteristics in my gowns.” –Yuliana Candra

BlacMéra was created in August 2010 and is a stunning couture brand that combines alluring femininity and romantic beauty with the passion, beauty, strength, and timelessness of pure womanhood. Founded and designed by Yuliana Candra, each BlacMéra piece is cut-to-the-curve to accentuate the silhouette of the feminine line and to celebrate every woman's sensuality. The line proudly embraces a sustainable philosophy and is passionate about utilizing eco-friendly materials in addition to working with ethical suppliers. The couture line features meticulous beading, hand embroidery, crystal work, and intricate embellishments of non-conventional materials such as recycled cans, recycled plastics, rattan sheets, and dried flowers.

In her show at Agenda Loft, Yuliana will introduce her design inspirations by drawing multiple references from traditional clothing of various cultures featuring lineup pieces inspired by the Spanish Traje de Flamenca, the Chinese QiPao, the Indonesian Kebaya, the Indian Sari, the Moroccan Kaftan, the Greek Chiton, and the Roman's Last Crusade. She also uses mixed media for the embellishment work. Her creative team is constantly testing prototype pieces and using recycled and reusable materials, such as rattan strips, leather from old sofa that have been cut out, burned, and interweaved with Swarovski crystals. Each BlacMéra signature piece features breathtaking designs inspired from Candra's lifelong travels across the ancientand modern worlds. Using the finest textiles, each garment is carefully handcrafted with the highest attention to detail.
