Acknowledging that fashion jewellery and accessory makers had done well to increase exports, Union Minister of state for Textiles, Ajay Tamta said they should focus on maintaining product quality and timely delivery to enhance competitiveness in global markets and boost exports.

"They need to do more hard work in maintaining quality, price and delivery of their products to face the competition from other competitive countries as well as promote exports from the country," Tamta said in a statement read at the 9th edition of the Indian Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Show at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida.

Promising the exporting community all possible help from the ministry, he said there as need to popularise new and lesser known crafts different from those that were being promoted and practised in village clusters.

Tamta suggested development of craft of the Himalayan as a case in point which would also help generate sustained employment opportunities. (SH)
