Marilyn Monroe gown & Superman costume are on sale

An extraordinary collection of some exclusive costumes, straight from the iconic Hollywood movies or the personal wardrobes of legendary cine stars, will go under the hammer at California’s famous entertainment memorabilia auctioneer Julien’s Auctions.

Scheduled to take place on April 5-6, 2013, the auction event ‘Hollywood Legends’ will include famous clothing pieces like the timeless blue knit leotard Superman suit, red cape and pants worn by the late actor Christopher Reeve in his 'Superman IV: The Quest for Peace' movie. The entire costume is expected to fetch an incredible sum of £20,000.

In addition, Anna May Wong’s black dress worn in ‘Daughter of Shanghai’, Paulette Goddard’s gown from ‘Bride of Vengeance’, Barbara Stanwyck’s period costume from ‘This is My Affair’ and Maureen O’Sullivan’s personal Jane outfit from ‘Tarzan’ are among the other items to be sold at the auction.

The celebrity-owned to-be-auctioned ensembles will include an ivory evening coat worn by Tippi Hedren during the premiere of ‘The Birds’ at the Cannes Film Festival (1963) and Brittany Murphy’s couture and designer pieces which she wore at premieres, award programs and modelling sessions.

However, the highlight of the auction is a strappy, body hugging brown cocktail dress sourced from the personal wardrobe of the all time favourite screen goddess Marilyn Monroe.

Hosted annually, Hollywood Legends auctions exceptional wardrobe pieces, props, photographs and other accessories related to the American cinema.
