A host of young and seasoned South African designers showcased their latest Autumn/Winter 2015 collections at the just held edition of SA Fashion Week in Johannesburg.

Designer Amanda May blended the subtlety of romance and drama into her latest tulip flower-inspired range which included firm and textured garments with petal like overlapping detailing in a bold colour palette enhanced with signature Indian saree prints.

The Cape Town-born young design talent Angelo Sebastian Page’s catwalk presentation titled ‘Man’s Demise, mother nature’s reckoning’ drew inspiration from a fictional story depicting the rise of Mother Nature to protect her nuclear bomb devastated land. Replete with organic and innovate silhouettes, the heavily textured ensembles had a strong futuristic feel to them.

The 2009 fantasy drama film Where the Wild Things Are played as muse for the young fashion label Oh! Deer’s designer duo Dominique Ackermann and Diandra Haupt. Based in contemporary silhouettes, the featured pieces were decorated with appliquéd wool prints, side slits, cut outs and cropped detailing.

Inspired by the idea of wearable art, modern craft and woman, Semole Mooka, the designer behind the womenswear brand ‘Revelation Fashion,’ created an innovative line accented with modern African prints, soft colours and insert details for fuller-figured women.

Designer Jenevieve Lyons’ collection entitled Linear Mind aimed to highlight the vivid thought processes of the human mind. Replete with 3-D silhouettes, the heavy silk organdie crafted apparels were finished with black binding to reveal the structures.

Pieter Burger and Carla Roos, the creative heads behind the label Wake, took inspiration from the animal hide and skin. Reinterpreting the shedding of snake’s skin as the symbol of rebirth, the fashion line was accentuated with layers, overlapping techniques and boxy shapes. (PB)
