London’s Victoria and Albert Museum is gearing up to host the first and largest retrospective exhibit of the late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen in Europe.

Slated to take place from March 14 to July 19, 2015, the display, which will be co-organized with the Austrian luxury cut lead glass producer Swarovski, will aim to offer an up and close view into the designer’s 'visionary body of work’ created in his nearly 20-year-long career.

Entitled as ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,’ the event will showcase an array of designs, including pieces from his 1992 MA graduate collection at Central Saint Martins and the unfinished A/W 2010 line, with a dramatic staging and sense of spectacle synonymous with the fashion talent’s runway shows.

To be divided into 10 themes along with an entirely separate section devoted solely to McQueen’s work in London, the display’s major attractions include ensembles from the designer’s Isabella Blow Collection, a spray painted dress from the designer’s Spring/Summer 1999 range, a tulle and lace dress with veil and antlers (Widows of Culloden, Autumn/Winter 2006-2007), a dyed ostrich feathers and hand-painted microscopic slides adorned number (Voss, Spring/Summer 2001), the Duck feather dress (The Horn of Plenty, Autumn/Winter 2009-2010) and a Renaissance imagery inspired pointed shouldered jacket (It's a Jungle out there, Autumn/Winter 1997-98).

The inaugural version of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2011. Till date the display is considered among one of the top 10 most visited exhibitions of the museum. (PB)
