Around 1,800 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions featured their latest apparel and accessory designs, fabrics and related professional services at the twin Fall/Winter extravaganzas, Hong Kong Fashion Week (HKFW) and World Boutique, Hong Kong (WBHK).

According to a press statement from the concurrent events’ organiser Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the showcases hosted some 60 fashion-centric activities including over 30 fashion parades and house shows, designer interactive sessions, trend seminars and networking events.

Germany’s Marccain label’s Hong Kong distributor Queenix (Asia) participated in WBHK for the third time in a row. The company’s brand manager Willa Chuang said, “World Boutique, Hong Kong offers an excellent platform to promote the brand and explore business opportunities with more Asian customers.”

“We’ve established contacts with many potential customers from Asia. We’re particularly keen to expand Marccain’s presence in the markets of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines,” she added.

Peachespinkish, the HKFW debutante from Indonesia, highlighted its latest bridal and evening gown collections. The brand’s designer, Shanty Mulyadi, said about the event, “Our contemporary and unique designs have attracted a lot of interest from international buyers including those from Europe and the US.”

“Some buyers from Canada, Italy and France have made serious enquiries and we expect orders from them soon. The fair also gives us a good opportunity to learn from international fashion designers and see the latest trends,” he shared.

Another newcomer at the twin event, Singaporean fast fashion retailer Mds’ director Joe Phua said that the company is looking for women’s clothing and accessories suppliers to expand in Malaysia, Philippines and UAE markets. “The fair is an interesting show and we are happy with the quality of the suppliers here. We’ll follow up and expect to place orders after the fair.”

Sharing experiences on the twin fairs, Michaela Sekyrková, export manager of Czech Republic-based multi-brand online shop Zoot, stated, “We’ve already identified two Hong Kong brands that design and offer fashionable handbags, shoes and accessories. We will place initial sample orders. This is a good fair. The timing is just right for us to source and make pre-ordering for the coming fall/winter collections.”

In addition to fashion exhibits and business meetings, the WBHK, for the very first time in its history of 13 years, welcomed public visitors on the final day. The event, which showed some 660 international labels, organised activities like catwalk parades, fashion upcycling demo, celebrity events and exclusive shopping opportunities.

Some 38,000 buyers from 87 countries including Asian nations and regions like Chinese mainland, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam along with European companies from Germany and France attended the concurrent shows. (PB)
