The ILA awards were given away by Sunil Sethi and Lipika Sood to the winners at a gala night hosted by Messe Frankfurt India and the Guild of Designers and Artists.

“Industry majors from India and abroad joined the gathering to reward and recognise talents of the Indian décor and design industry,” a press release from the Guild of Designers and Artists informed.

“We have plans to organize ILA on yearly basis so that the talent of our youth should be recognised and can play a successful role in turning their careers,” Manek added.

The finalists of the first round were finalised after going through over 100 entries from across India and after undergoing an exhaustive evaluation process.

Elegant approach to the medium of simple, useful products, the contestants created an illusion of an endless environment.

Winning entries was based on the theme, ‘Phoenix - the fabled bird destroys itself through fire only to rise anew from its ashes’.

Enhancing this metaphor to the Indian culture and enthralling the senses, the exhibit was formed by reinvention and interpretation of materials, its many avatars, processes, crafts and cultural values in a Bedouin tent.

Home fashionistas, designers, architects, retailers and industry professionals will be able to explore and experience these concepts live at the ongoing Ambiente India & Heimtextil India exhibitions.

Challenging the finalists to integrate bold themes of ‘Collision, Infinity, Phoenix and Introspection’ in interior spaces, the awards made way for a special ‘Experience Zone’ which has been set up by the contestants for the final round.

With the platform known to bring together companies that can ‘Transform Spaces’, a special award category for the most innovatively designed ‘Exhibition Space’ was introduced this year.

The award for the most well-conceptualised and executed stand design was presented in three categories of 9 - 36 sq. metre stands, 36 - 100 sq. metre stands and stands over 100 sq. metre stands.

These were presented to DBS Trends and Design Studio; Jade Exports and Punikim Textiles Pvt. Ltd., respectively.

Contributing their valuable inputs to the judging process were Sunil Sethi, designers Ritu Kumar, Sunita Kohli and Lipika Sood.

Joining them were Olaf Schmidt, vice president - textiles & textile technologies and Stephen Kurzawski, senior vice president, both from Messe Frankfurt. (AR)
