CITI and SRTEPC to jointly organise MMF Textile Conclave

Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) are jointly organising the first Manmade Fibre Textile Conclave on 17 March, 2015 in Mumbai.

Under the theme ‘innovation, efficiency and competitiveness’, the Conclave will explore the potential and examine the constraints in the manmade fibre (MMF) sector and evolve measures to spur growth and investment in this segment of the textile value chain.

The conclave, which would also emphasise the need for interdisciplinary cooperation along the processing chain, would bring together leading manufacturers, consumers and end users of MMF products to enhance the business potential in this vital sector.

As part of the Conclave, a Business Session will be held on ‘Emerging Trends in Manmade Fibre Technology’. This session will discuss the latest technologies, fibre/filament innovations, changing technology, changing applications, and also issues related to fibre demand and long term opportunities.

The Conclave will also hold two panel discussions. The panel on ‘MMF Production’ will discuss the issues related to MMF consumption and mill demand, which is considered to be growing, but below the potential. Experts will discuss the issues which affect the fibre consumption and capacity. The demand of MMF products is expected to increase with the advent and wide applicability of technical textiles, according to experts.

The second panel on ‘Fibre Usage: Trends in India & Abroad’ will discuss the international MMF textile trade and growth opportunities. Experts will discuss how India can enhance its position in the global MMF textile trade.

Manmade fibres account for 68 per cent of all fibres consumed worldwide and their usage is growing. Total mill consumption of MMF worldwide is estimated to have grown by 4.1 per cent during 2013 over the previous year to reach 61 billion kg and in China by 8.5 per cent to reach 38 billion kg. South Asia as a whole also registered positive growth whereas consumption in India declined by 6.7 per cent and reached 2.1 billion kg during the year. (RKS)
