Health and Wellbeing Tool validation workshop held in Dhaka

Washim Mia, Staff Reporter (RMG Times)  With a view to promoting the implementation of workplace laws and policies related to health and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in RMG factories, a daylong tool validation workshop on Workers’ Health, Sanitation and Wellbeing in Workplace: Laws & Practice’ was held at Marino Royal Hotel on 14th of July 2018.

The session was organized by Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) and supported by SNV Netherlands Development Organization Bangladesh.

Focusing on the capacity building of partner and non-partner factories on existing laws and policies on SRHR, Mr. Abdul Mottaleb, Managing Director-Global Sustainable Certification Services (GSCS) presented the assessment tool which has been developed in the format of checklist. Questionnaire in the checklist is in line with national laws, rules and policies. It also complies with the national, international and compliance standards.

This tool is expected to serve as the complete set of guiding standards and will identify the gaps if there is any in terms of workers’ health, sanitation and wellbeing in workplace and automatically generate a Corrective Action Plan (CAP).

Representatives from BILS, SNV, Bangladesh Apparel Professional Society (BAPS), RMG factories attended the session and expressed their positive feedback on the questionnaire.
