Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent (RMG Times)   SNV Netherlands Development Organization joins hands with BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), country’s one of the leading universities, for the purpose of providing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) awareness training to the workers, specially female, in the targeted RMG industries. In this context both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Yesterday, 12th of February 2018 at BUFT Campus.

Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, BUFT and Mr. Jason Belanger, Country Director, SNV Netherlands Development Organization signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

It is said from the representatives of BUFT that it’s their pleasure that SNV has come forward to work with them. Garments industry has become the lien holder of the country’s export income and it’s an important duty from their part to reply some for those who bring that huge remittance in Bangladesh; the RMG workers. More than 75 percent of total workers are female who, very frequently, do not have the proper command on their sexual and reproductive health. So, it’s going to be fruitful for them getting such awareness trainings, conducted by them along with SNV, to be aware of their health status and to uplift the productivity of the RMG factories as a whole.

On the other hand SNV stated that being a non-profit international organization funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands they are very much interested to continue their journey in Bangladesh for the betterment of the RMG workers’ health and productivity, especially of women. Their ultimate goal of us is to form a world in which female workers will hardly be discriminated, treated as a puppet and neglected in terms of their capability. At that time SNV also welcomed BUFT joining them to work hand in hand for the wellbeing of the overall ready-made garment sector of the country.

After the signing of the MoU, the delegation met the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, (BUFT) Mr. Muzaffer Uddin Siddique. They interacted with each other and discussed on various issues and future plans of their institutions.

Respected guests, the Deans, all Heads of the Departments, Admin Officials and many more were present at the event.
