Three apparel factories are to be set up in Ampara district of Sri Lanka, by Daya Apparel Exports Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

While Daya Apparel would invest US$ 2.13 million for setting up of the three ready-made garment factories, the USAID will contribute US$ 1.3 million.

The factories having 20 production lines will have an annual capacity to produce 2.4 million apparel pieces with an estimated turnover of more than US$ 15.6 million.

Once operational, the three units would generate job opportunity for 1,000 men and women from the surrounding area, who will be trained as assistants and sewing machine operators.

The first of the three factories has already become operational employing 80 workers.

The three-factory project under the Eastern Garment Alliance of the USAID will provide equitable job opportunities for both men and women from all ethnic communities. It will give a chance to people from various ethnic backgrounds for on-the-job interaction.
