Neoshell fabric wins Derryck Draper Award for Innovation

Polartec Neoshell, the most breathable waterproof fabric on the market, has been voted most outstanding outdoor product innovation in the last 12 months by the UK's Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild. The Guild's panel of outdoor experts represents some of the top media professionals specializing in sustainable outdoor activities and the environment. This year's panel of judges included UK writers Chris Townsend, Judy Armstrong, Graham Thompson and Tom Hutton.
"(Polartec NeoShell is) the most breathable membrane I've ever tried,"says Chris Townsend, gear tester for TGO.
Graham Thompson from Trail says (Polartec NeoShell is) "a bigger story than the other new fabrics as it's available in different weights and fabrics."
"This year the panel of judges were unanimous in their decision to give the award to Polartec Neoshell," says Roly Smith, President of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild. "Most membranes work because the heat and moisture inside creates pressure that then tries to force its way out; but the new Polartec Neoshell works slightly differently, allowing the air outside to 'pull' the moisture out. It was this innovative approach - and, of course, the resulting end product - that so impressed the judges."
"If you can win an award for a waterproof fabric in the UK, you can win anywhere," jokes Nate Simmons, Polartec Global Director of Marketing. "We've been getting great feedback from head-to-head tests with some of the other new technologies and we really think Polartec NeoShell will help change the way people think about waterproof fabrics."
Polartec Neoshell will be available in the Fall 2011 collections from some of the best outdoor apparel brands in the world including 66 North, Mammut, Marmot, Montura, Rab, The North Face (North America only), Vaude and Westcomb.
