BabyUniverse's Las Vegas warehouse to support Western Region

Baby's branded products seller and online retailer BabyUniverse Inc announced its plan to consolidate Western Region direct distribution operations into a single 24,000-square-foot facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With a targeted opening date in February 2006, the new warehouse will replace the existing 5,000-square-foot California office and warehouse facility currently leased by recently acquired DreamtimeBaby.com.
The Las Vegas warehouse will also support the Western Region distribution requirements of BabyUniverse.com, thereby reducing greatly the number of long-range shipments that have historically been fulfilled via the Company's Florida warehouse.
"Beyond the obvious shipping efficiencies, the Las Vegas facility should also provide DreamtimeBaby with an opportunity for increased sales in California.
With the elimination of its ties to California, DreamtimeBaby will no longer be required to charge sales tax to California customers, a requirement that has historically limited its price competitiveness versus out-of-state Internet retailers.
The state of California has traditionally been responsible for nearly 15 percent of sales at BabyUniverse, while representing less than 10% of sales at DreamtimeBaby. We believe sales tax to be greatly responsible for this difference."
BabyUniverse, through its websites BabyUniverse.com and DreamtimeBaby.com, is a leading online retailer of brand-name baby, toddler and maternity products in the United States.
